The New England Patriots will face the Philadelphia Eagles on February 4 in the 2018 Super Bowl, and despite winning five Super Bowls in seven tries and two of the last three Super Bowls, the Patriots are feeling a little superstitious and so too should bettors that are planning on taking part in Super Bowl online betting for Super Bowl 52.
The Patriots revealed today that they will be wearing their road white jerseys in the Super Bowl despite the fact that they are technically considered the “Home” team in the Super Bowl, which will be held at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minnesota.
The reason the Patriots decided to wear their road jerseys is they have had a lot of luck in the Super Bowl wearing them in the past. In fact, they are 3-1 in the Super Bowl wearing those jerseys, with the only loss happening during the Bill Parcells days when they lost to the Green Bay Packers.
The Patriots wore their blue home jerseys in two of their first three Super Bowl wins, but haven’t had a lot of luck wearing it since thanks to two defeats at the hands of Eli Manning and the New York Giants.
The team also wore their red home jerseys in the Super Bowl once, but they were blown out by the Mike Ditka led Chicago Bears in 1985.
Here is a look at New England’s Super Bowl record by jersey.
Red: 0-1
Super Bowl XX (46-10 loss to Bears)
Blue: 2-2
Super Bowl XXXVI (20-17 win over Rams)
Super Bowl XXXVIII (32-29 win over Panthers)
Super Bowl XLII (17-14 loss to Giants)
Super Bowl XLVI (21-17 loss to Giants)
White: 3-1
Super Bowl XXXI (35-21 loss to Packers)
Super Bowl XXXIX (24-21 win over Eagles)
Super Bowl XLIX (28-24 win over Seahawks)
Super Bowl LI (34-28 win over Falcons)
Looking at the success they’ve had with each jersey, it is easy to understand why the Patriots want to wear their white jerseys at the Super Bowl, especially after last year’s comeback. If you think the Patriots can repeat and you want to bet on Superbowl 2018 check out the above recommended betting online sports sites but keep in mind the Rob Gronkowski injury (concussion) that took him out of the AFC Championship game last Sunday.
Interestingly, the Denver Broncos did the same thing two years ago when they defeated the Carolina Panthers. They lost to the Seattle Seahawks in their Blue jerseys and decided to switch to their white jerseys the second time around.
Also, the team that wore white has won 12 of the last 13 Super Bowls, so maybe the Patriots are on to something.
