The New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers met in the AFC Championship Game last season, and look like they are on a collision course to meet again in the championship game this season.
The question on everybody’s mind is, can the Steelers end their three-game losing streak to the Patriots in the AFC Championship?
Last season, the Steelers had to go to Gillette Stadium to face the Patriots in the championship game, and ended up losing 36-17. After the game, Steelers fans blamed the loss on the fact that the game was played in New England, and claimed the Steelers will win if the game was played at Heinz Field.
After 12 games, the Patriots have the best record in the AFC, but the Steelers, who are currently 9-2, can tie them with a win against the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football. With both teams set to meet in Pittsburgh in two weeks, most fans expect that game to decide who will have home field advantage in the playoffs.
If the Steelers win and get home field, there are still no guarantees they will win the game because the Steelers haven’t done very well against the Patriots in the past, especially in the playoffs.
Pittsburgh has lost 10 of 13 meetings against the Patriots since Brady became the starter. They are also 0-3 against New England in the playoffs, with two of the three games being played at Heinz Field.
Despite the poor record against New England in the playoffs, Pittsburgh fans are positive this is the year they end the skid.
In two of the three playoff meetings, the Patriots had the better team, but with players like Antonio Brown, LeVeon Bell, Ben Roethlisberger, Juju Smith-Schuster, and Martavis Bryant on offense, the Steelers are arguably the deepest offensive team in the league.
With an improving defense that has come up big during the regular season, the Steelers and their fans are confident they will be able to defeat the Patriots in the playoffs.
Since the playoffs is still a month away, we will have to settle for a preview when they play in two weeks.
