Looking for a Patrick Mahomes injury update? Patrick Mahomes will play in Super Bowl 2021! Despite still being in concussion protocol, Mahomes will be cleared to play later this week.

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had to leave the field in the third quarter of their Divisional Round game against the Cleveland Browns after suffering a concussion.

Chad Henne filled in for Mahomes and was able to help the team hold on to their lead. With the team facing the Buffalo Bills in the AFC Championship Game, fans are hoping the former league MVP will be able to play.

On Monday, head coach Andy Reid was asked about Mahomes status.

“He’s in the protocol, and we’ll just follow that and see how he does here in the next couple days,” Reid said. “I just leave that with (athletic trainer) Rick (Burkholder). And the docs because of the protocol it’s a no brainer for the coaching staff. You don’t have to think about it. … I can’t tell you from a medical standpoint where he’s at. I don’t know that.”

Mahomes was evaluated for a concussion after getting tackled on a third-down run midway through the third quarter. After looking woozy as he stood up, the MVP QB was helped off the field. He then jogged to the locker room.

He must pass through protocol before being eligible to play on Sunday. Today’s status isn’t indicative of his availability one way or another. More will be known as the week progresses and the Chiefs hit the practice field.

If he doesn’t pass through protocol, Henne will start for the Chiefs on Sunday.
