If you’re planning to bet on NFL this weekend for Week 5 then you should be taking a look at the Lions Panthers game. Out of all them NFL Week 5 games the Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers match-up is the most appealing to us. The Detroit Lions and Carolina Panthers will face off on Sunday in a game that could end up being an NFC playoff preview when the teams meet at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 PM. ET.
The Panthers are 3-1 and have a share of the NFC South lead. Their offense had a slow start to the season, but finally broke out on Sunday against the New England Patriots, scoring a season high 33 points in the win.
Their defense on the other hand has been playing very well this season and is the biggest reason they only have one loss so far. The Panthers are holding opponents to 17.5 points per game, which is the fourth best average in the league so far.
After their win against the Patriots, head coach Ron Rivera told reporters he hopes the win will be a catalyst for the team moving forward.
If the team wants to win the division, their offense needs to build on what they did right against the Patriots, and try controlling the clock moving forward so their defense isn’t too tired by the time the season is over.
The Lions are also 3-1 and have a share of the NFC North lead. Like Carolina, most of their success can be attributed to their improved defense, which is also holding opponents to 17.5 points per game. Unlike the Panthers, Detroit’s offense has also been pretty good this year.
The Lions are averaging 24.8 points per game, which is the 10th best mark in the league. Matthew Stafford leads the way for Detroit, and is averaging 202.8 passing yards per game. Detroit’s running game has also been a factor this season as the team is averaging 97 yards per game, which is 19th in the league.
The Lions are favored to win this game by 3 points. In the past, I would have taken the Panthers over the Lions, but Detroit’s defense is the real deal and I expect them to make life hard for Cam Newton. Take Detroit -3 in this one.
