Jameis Winston Saints Possible Signing

Former Tampa Bay quarterback Jameis Winston Saints is reportedly close to signing a one-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

Even though Winston put up some solid numbers last season, he had a hard time protecting the ball. Also, threw a career-high 30 interception. Becoming the first player to throw over 30 touchdowns and interceptions in one season. Winston in a nutshell.

The 2013 Heisman winner and first overall pick in the 2015 NFL Draft was displaced in Tampa Bay by former New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady. Brady signed with the Buccaneers last month.

By signing a one-year deal with the Saints, Winston will get to learn from Saints head coach Sean Payton. Also, future Hall of Famer Drew Brees. Teddy Bridgewater, who served as Brees’ backup last season. Signed with the Carolina Panthers in the offseason after leading the Saints to a 5-0 record when Brees was out with an injury.

Even though the Saints still have Taysom Hill on the roster. Signing Winston gives them a veteran backup that will be able to fill in if Brees gets injured again next season. If he gets the opportunity to play and performs well, Winston should be in line for a starting job after the season or could stay in New Orleans as the successor to Brees. Who is likely going into his final season in the league. What does this mean for a possible Jameis Winston Saints deal?

Payton told reporters earlier this offseason that Hill has “earned this opportunity to be our 2,” but he has made it clear that the Saints want to have three QBs active and ready to play on game days so that they can continue to use Hill in his versatile role as a runner and receiver.

Winston, 26, has gone 28-42 in his five seasons as a starter with the Bucs. Completing 61.3% of his passes with 121 touchdowns and 88 interceptions. What will the future hold for Winston?
