On Saturday, attorneys for Dallas Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott claimed that their client is the target of extortion stemming from an altercation in May. The situation led to a security guard filing an assault complaint.
“Over the course of the past several weeks, Mr. Elliott has been the target of extortion,” attorneys Scott Rosenblum and Jason Lampert said in a statement. “Kyle Johnson’s filing of a criminal complaint against Mr. Elliott in connection with the Las Vegas incident is the latest attempt to do so. Our client and his team are in contact with all of the proper authorities and are fully cooperating with them in their investigations.”
At the time of the incident, Ezekiel Elliott was briefly detained. However, he was not arrested after Johnson, a security guard, fell to the ground following contact with the running back. No charges were filed after the incident.
Earlier this month, the NFL concluded its investigation into the incident. Also, the NFL determined that Elliott did not violate the league’s personal conduct policy and would not face any discipline. Johnson told reporters that the NFL’s decision not to discipline Elliott led him to file the complaint.
Another Dallas Cowboys Extortion Case
“To not have anything happen to him, the NFL is basically saying it’s OK to go to Vegas, get obliterated and shove people over fences,” Johnson told the TV station.
Ezekiel Elliott released a statement after meeting with NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The statement vowed to work harder to avoid putting himself in such situations.
Ezekiel Elliott Possible Hold Out
Also, to make matters worse. Rumors have surfaced of Ezekiel Elliott being a possible hold out before the start of the season. Could Cowboys fans be any more stressed?
“I’ve worked hard to make better decisions. Also, to live up to the high standards that are expected of me,” Elliott said in the statement. “I failed to do that here and I made a poor decision.”
“I need to work harder to ensure I do not put myself in compromised situations in the future. I’ve rededicated myself to use all of the resources that the league has made available. However, in the end, it is up to I. As a family we are determined not to be in this position again”, said Ezekiel Elliott.
