The Philadelphia Eagles had to turn to backup quarterback Nick Foles in their last game after starter Carson Wentz was ruled out with a back injury. Foles, who struggled earlier in the season while Wentz was recovering from a knee injury he suffered last season, looked good in his last game, leading the Eagles to a much needed win over the Los Angeles Rams.
On Monday, Eagles head coach Doug Pederson said the team will stick with Foles this week in order to give Wentz some extra time to heal. Even though Wentz’s injury could take up to three months to fully heal, the Eagles are hoping it will heal well enough for him to play again this season and have decided not to put him on injured reserve, which would rule him out for the rest of the season and the postseason.
If the injury doesn’t heal, the team will keep Wentz off the field to avoid making it worse.

“If we put him out there, there has to be 100 percent that there is no risk of anything further,” Pederson said.
With the Eagles sitting at 7-7, they are still alive in the NFC East race as well as the wildcard race thanks to the Dallas Cowboys losing to the Indianapolis Colts in their last game. If the Cowboys lose another game and the Eagles win their remaining two games, they can still win the division.
If the Cowboys don’t lose another game, the Eagles are half a game behind the Minnesota Vikings in the wildcard race and can clinch the final spot in NFC playoffs if they win their remaining two games and the Vikings falter.
The Eagles will be hoping Foles has the same magic he had last season when he led the team to the Super Bowl and won the Super Bowl MVP award.
