Tom Brady and the New England Patriots were upset in the first week of the NFL season by the Kansas City Chiefs. They look to have righted the ship however NFL Week 4 will be a big test when the Patriots face Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers.
The NFL will kicked off the 2017 regular season with a matchup between the New England Patriots and Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday, September 7. The game was played at Gillette Stadium and was scheduled to begin at 8:30 PM. ET. The Chiefs beat the Patriots by a score of 42-27.
Patriots Analysis
The Patriots are the defending Super Bowl champions, but they will start the defense of their title without the services of Julian Edelman, who tore his ACL last week and will miss the entire 2017 season.
The Patriots will also be without last year’s leading rusher LeGarrette Blount, who signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in the offseason.
Without Edelman and Blount, the Patriots offense should still be potent enough to put up a lot of points against the Chiefs.
Tom Brady will be ready to go in the season opener this year after sitting out the first four games of the season last year. Expect a breakout game from Rob Gronkowski, who will be seeing more passes thrown his way until Brady feels more comfortable with his new receivers.
Chiefs Analysis
The Chiefs won the AFC West last season, but will find things much tougher this year after losing some key players during the offseason. The Chiefs will be without Jeremy Maclin and Jamaal Charles, who were let go during the offseason, but they are hoping rookies Kareem Hunt and Jehu Chesson can pick up the slack for them.
With Andy Reid in charge, the Chiefs will still be a playoff contender, but if they want to be considered a legitimate Super Bowl contender, they will have to find a way to get a win in New England to convince the skeptics.
NFL Week 4 Predictions (Patriots and Panthers)
The Patriots are favored to win by -3. The Panthers will keep things close in the first half but the Patriots will pull away in the second, getting the win and covering the spread.
