If I had a dollar every time I heard somebody say “Offense wins games, but defense wins championships” this past week I would have more dollars than Jay Z and Beyonce combined! This is not to say that the saying does not ring true, it’s just funny that more people are talking about the defense going into Superbowl 48 than the offense. Does anyone even know that Russell Wilson is playing on Sunday?

While offensive players tend to get the spotlight, the defensive squads are often the guys who are actually getting the job done. To win the Super Bowl, it is important for both sides to play well. The defense typically sets the tone for the entire game and these two teams aren’t short on defensive talent. Richard Sherman has recently made news headlines for comments made after his team won the NFC championship. Sherman seems to have plenty to prove on the field as seen evident in his post game interviews. Imagine the post-game interview if Richard Sherman gets an interception?

The Broncos have a pretty good defense as well. The Broncos defense ranks highly in many statistics. Danny Trevathan leads the Broncos in interceptions with 3 on the season. He also leads the team in tackles with 87. This young player will continue to make a name for himself in the NFL. These two young defensive stars will likely highlight a defensive struggle in the Super Bowl. Both Russell Wilson and Peyton Manning tend to get a lot of press but this Super Bowl could be dominated by the defense. Have you ever thought about betting on the Super Bowl?
