Ryan Shazier Hits Another Milestone

In today’s Pittsburgh Steelers news linebacker Ryan Shazier was told there was a chance he might never work again. This, after suffering a spinal injury while trying to make a tackle against the Cincinnati Bengals in 2017. However, things are looking up for Ryan!

Despite the slim odds he faced, Shazier never stopped believing he would work again. Also, he stayed focus on rehabbing from the injury. Since the injury, Shazier has shared his progress with fans. Ryan has gone from walking around with some assistance to driving, jogging and lifting weights.

This weekend, Ryan Shazier showed just how far he has come since 2017. The former player shared a picture of himself dancing with his wife on their wedding day. The video, which has since gone viral, shows how far he has come from being a man that was never expected to walk again. Now, moving around without any help.

Even though Shazier is now back on his feet, he is still not fully recovered. The Steelers is not expected to play next season. Despite him not being to help his teammates on the field, the Steelers have done their part to make sure Shazier is taken care of financially.

What does this mean? The Steelers have kept Shazier on the roster since the injury and continue to pay him even though he hasn’t been on the field since 2017.
The team also paid his salary for the 2019 season so he has an additional year towards his NFL pension.

General manager Kevin Colbert cited Ryan Shazier’s leadership skills as one of the reasons the team decided to keep him on the roster.

“We will continue to support Ryan’s efforts to return to play,” Colbert said in a statement. “Although he won’t be able to help us on the field in 2019, his leadership, insight, and emotional support have always been very valuable to us, and we look forward to his contributions in our pursuit of a championship.”
