Surprise, surprise…the New England Patriots are once again Super Bowl betting and Week 6 favorites going into Sunday’s game.
Tom Brady and the New England Patriots will be trying to reclaim sole possession of the AFC East lead when they face off against the New York Jets at MetLife Stadium on Sunday. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 PM. ET.
- New England Patriots Analysis
The Patriots were favored to win the Super Bowl for the second consecutive season, but haven’t looked like the defending champions after five games. They have already matched their loss total from last season and will likely lose a few more games before the season ends.
New England’s biggest problem this season has been their defense, which has allowed opponents to score an average of 28.4 points, which is 30th in the league.
After giving up at 33 points to the Houston Texans and Carolina Panthers, New England’s defense stepped up last week and held the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to 14 points last Thursday.
Offensively, the Patriots are one of the best teams in the league, averaging 29.6 points per game. Despite his age, Tom Brady continues to play at a very high level, and leads the league in yards and is third in the league in touchdown passes.
Brady should be able to pick the Jets defense apart, but will need his defense to slow down New York’s offense.
- New York Jets Analysis
The Jets were expected to be one of the worst, if not the worst team in the NFL this season. The team apparently didn’t get the memo because they have won three straight games after losing their first two and are tied with the Patriots and Buffalo Bills for the AFC East lead.
New York’s defense is the biggest reason they have won their last three games, holding their opponents to 13.3 points per game during that span.
However, the Jacksonville Jaguars are the only team with a winning record the Jets have defeated, but a win against the Patriots will prove to their doubters that they are for real.
For the Jets to have a chance to win this game, Josh McCown and his teammates will have to do a better job taking care of the ball than they did against the Cleveland Browns on Sunday.
- Patriots Jets NFL Week 6 Betting Predictions
The Patriots are favored to win this game by 9.5 points, the over/under on total points scored is 47.5.
On paper, the Patriots look like the obvious choice, but you have to keep in mind that they are 1-4 against the spread at MetLife Stadium so I expect this to be much closer than the oddsmakers do. Take the Jets +9.5.
